Banff Gondola Tickets: Prices, Slots, Combos

The Ride Itself

The ride up takes approximately 8 minutes over a track of approximately 1.6 km. The lower terminal sits at 1,583 metres above sea level and the upper terminal at 2,281 metres, so you climb about 700 vertical metres in one ascent. At the top you get the summit building and its viewing decks.

The Summit Boardwalk

The ticket also covers the boardwalk, described by the operator as a casual 2 km stroll to Sanson's Peak and the Sulphur Mountain Cosmic Ray Station, a National Historic Site of Canada. Note the fine print: the boardwalk consists of 368 shallow stairs each way, so it is not wheelchair accessible. Sanson's Peak sits about 10 metres above the upper terminal's elevation.

Getting There Is Part Of The Deal

Admission includes free transportation. Gondola ticket holders ride Roam Transit route 1 free with a same-day pre-purchased ticket, and the operator runs its own free shuttle from Banff, available May 15 to October 12, 2026, also requiring a same-day pre-purchased ticket. That matters because base parking costs $12.42 (C$17.50), paid and enforced on site, and the operator describes on-site parking as very limited.

The gondola is 2.5 km from Banff town centre at the end of Mountain Avenue, so walking is possible for the determined. Our estimate is that the bus beats the parking fee for almost everyone. The Banff map shows the base relative to downtown.

What Is Not Included

The ticket does not include the national park entry fee, which is a separate Parks Canada charge. A day pass costs $12.25 (C$12.25) per adult and stays valid until 4 pm the day after purchase. If you are driving into the park at all, budget for that alongside the gondola.

No Static Price Exists

The operator publishes no fixed dollar admission on any page. Its own wording is that ticket prices vary depending on the time, day and season. In practice you enter a date in the booking flow and the price for that slot appears.

This is a finding worth restating: nobody can honestly print a single Banff Gondola price, because the operator does not publish one. The same live-pricing model applies to the Lake Minnewanka cruise and the Columbia Icefield attractions, which are run by the same company.

Timed Slots In Peak Season

The ticket is timed in peak season, meaning you book a specific entry window rather than arriving whenever you like. The operator states that tickets often sell out during peak times and that availability is not guaranteed for walk-ins. It says advance bookings are not required but strongly recommended to avoid disappointment.

The summer calendar thins out days ahead, so a slot for a July Saturday may be gone before you leave home.

How Far Ahead To Book

Our guidance is three days as a floor for any summer visit, and further out for weekend and holiday dates. That matches the pattern on the booking calendar, where popular slots disappear early. For midweek visits in the shoulder months, slots are usually still open days ahead in our estimate.

The Fees And Refund Rules

Three rules to know before paying. First, a $1 Eco-Fee per guest is added at purchase. Second, tickets are non-refundable, including Pursuit Passes, so a wrong-date booking costs you.

Third, prices are subject to change at any time, so a screenshot from last month proves nothing. Platform listings such as the Banff Gondola Admission Ticket carry their own cancellation terms, which is one reason some travellers use them.

The One-Way Trick

Why First Thing Wins

The first two hours of the day are the cheapest window by design. The operator runs a Family Experience offer in which kids go free for the first two hours of the day, one free child admission for each paying adult, which confirms where the operator itself sees demand being lowest. Our estimate is that morning slots also give the clearest air over the Bow Valley before afternoon cloud builds in summer.

The Evening Case

The late window trades daylight for calm. The summit stays open into the evening through most of the year, and the last ride up falls at 7:30 PM in the fall schedule, later at 8:30 PM in the November 20 to December 31 window. Sunset from the ridge is the draw, and evening slots tend to sit at the lower end of the price curve in our estimate.

The tradeoff is that the boardwalk to Sanson's Peak is a daytime pleasure.

Slots To Avoid

Mid-morning to early afternoon is the peak of both pricing and queues in our estimate, especially on weekends in July and August. If you are locked into that window, book further ahead rather than hoping for a walk-up seat. Winter visits are a different story, since the ride runs year-round apart from a short maintenance closure each November.

Gondola Plus Upper Hot Springs

The hot springs are the natural pairing. Roam route 1 serves both the gondola and the springs, and your same-day gondola ticket makes that leg free. A single hot springs entry costs $14.02 (C$19.75) per adult with a locker token included, $12.24 (C$17.25) for seniors and youth aged 3 to 17, and $45.60 (C$64.25) for a family of four with a maximum of two adults.

The pool opens daily from 10 am to 10 pm with last entry at 9:30 pm, and entry is first-come, first-served with no online bookings or advance tickets at all. That makes it the opposite of the gondola, which rewards booking ahead. Our hot springs page has the full picture.

Gondola Plus Lake Minnewanka Cruise

The operator sells a printed combo of its own, the Explore Banff Sightseeing Tour from $128 per adult, which bundles the gondola with the Lake Minnewanka cruise. The standalone cruise is roughly an hour on Banff's biggest lake, and the dock is a 20-minute drive from the town of Banff in the operator's own wording. Multi-Attraction Discounts

Two operator discount routes exist. Alberta residents save up to 35 percent on gondola admission through Pursuit Rewards, and the Pursuit Pass bundles multiple Pursuit attractions with savings of up to 40 percent. Remember that Pursuit Passes are non-refundable like single tickets.

For most short-stay visitors, a plain ticket plus the free route 1 bus is the simplest structure in our estimate.

Who Rides Free

Children aged 5 and under ride free at any time, with no booking gymnastics required. On top of that, the Family Experience offer makes kids free for the first two hours of the day, at a rate of one free child admission for each paying adult. A family with two adults and two young children that books the earliest slot can get both children in at no charge in our reading of the offer.

Age Bands

The operator's own pages do not print the child and adult age brackets in dollars, because the price is live. Third-party listings describe adults as 13 and over and children as 6 to 12, with ages 5 and under free, which matches the free-ride policy the operator does print. Treat those bands as the working assumption and confirm in the booking flow, which shows the exact per-age price for your slot.

How This Compares With The Park Fees

The contrast with Parks Canada is sharp. Park admission is free for youth 17 and under at every Parks Canada place, and a family or group of up to seven people in one vehicle pays $17.39 (C$24.50) for a day pass. The hot springs are the exception to the free-youth rule, charging youth aged 3 to 17 the $12.24 (C$17.25) rate.

So a family's real cost stack for a gondola day is park entry plus live-priced gondola seats for everyone aged 6 and over, minus whatever the first-two-hours offer saves them.
